Simple Project Using Scraps

Did you know there are all sorts of woodworking project ideas out there for beginners? Some of them are a little more complicated than others, and some take more skill than others, but no matter which ones you choose, they can be a lot of fun! I have seen a lot of people get frustrated at the idea of making something from scratch, when what they really want to do is build something from a picture or plan. I believe this can be one of the most rewarding types of woodworking activities you can do. It’s a great way to put your imagination to work and learn a new skill.

One of my favorite woodworking project ideas is a simple, yet elegant wooden spice rack that you can build from woodworking project plans. This simple project is big enough for a whole family to enjoy, yet very simple to build. It also looks a lot larger than it actually is. That’s what I love about this item. It looks bigger but is not as big as it actually is.

Spice racks come in all different sizes so you can purchase one that will fit the space you have available. You can find plans that have everything you need for building one or you can buy a book with instructions on how to do DIY upholstered wood projects. The instructions will have measurements to help you from buying too much or too little material. If you aren’t sure about the measurements, then it is always a good idea to get a second opinion from someone who has experience in woodworking.

For beginners, it’s wise to start with something small before expanding. The key to getting started with woodworking is using basic power tools like a circular saw, jigsaw and sander. You don’t have to buy all of the power tools and accessories that are available for the professional woodworkers. These basic tools are going to be enough for your beginner woodworking.

My favorite beginner woodworking project is probably my basic wooden storage box. I call it my “do-it-yourself storage chest”. I get pleasure from putting together small woodworking projects. And one of my favorite DIY woodworking project ideas is making a storage bin out of scrap wood. Using scrap wood is so much fun!

To make my wood storage bin, I used some 3/4″ pine and some red oak particleboard. I used a jigsaw to cut out my shelves. Using a jig saw cuts down the time needed to make this project. And when you’re done, your storage bin will look like you built it yourself.

Another simple DIY kids table I made was a small square table made of cedar wood. I did not buy the wood for this DIY kids table. Instead, I found a large cedar chest and cut it down to size. The chest has drawers and a top that fits over the table (I stained the inside). This is a great DIY kids table with lots of space for storage.
